Rockers and Floors
Well holy moly, I am still working on this project :-). Its been a couple of
months since I last posted anything new. With the advent of Spring, comes
more yardwork than I care to admit. However, I have been working a little bit
here and there.
Here are a couple of shots of the inner rocker and my
donor car pieces mated together. I salvaged the front
part of the inner rocker from my donor car, although
originally I wasn't planning on using it. I had to fabricate
the "bulge" out section using some 16 gage and a little bit
of patience. Its not perfect, but will do the trick.
My homemade spray booth. Yeah, right. The parts are
as close to being done as I can get them. They are
hung from a 2x4 with some string. Time for some epoxy
2k primer!!!
Time to shoot some epoxy. I used a Harbor Freight HVLP spray gun (p/n
43280 if I remember correctly - the purple gun). I set the reg on the
compressor to 90 PSI, the reg on the gun to 45 psi, set the fan control to
give me a 6" vertical fan and had the fluid control cranked out. Thanks to my
good friend Joe R for helping me set the gun up. I used SPI 2k epoxy, with
no reducer. I mixed it and let it sit for about 10 minutes before shooting.
The stuff sprayed slicker than snot on a door knob. I hope the pictures
speak for themselves. I'm thinking I sprayed them a little heavy, but I
didn't have any runs, so maybe I'm ok.
Its nice to finally have some primer on these pieces. Next step, welding
everything in!!! FINALLY, some progess.
