Removing Windshield Trim
Step 1: Remove sun visor from top garnish molding. There are
three (3) phillips head screws holding the visor to the molding
Step 2: Remove the "A" Pillar weather strip. There are two
push button pins at the bottom of the weather strip which
needs to be carefully pulled out from the pillar. Once these
are out, gently pull the weather strip away from the stainless.
In my case, I have to replace it due to age,but if you want to
reuse yours, be careful not to tear it.
Step 3: After removing the weather stripping, remove the
stainless from the windshield frame by removing the four (4)
phillips head screws. You may have to gently pry the
stainless molding from the frame with a screw drivers. When
removing mine, it had some adhesive on the backside.
Step 3a: Picture of the windshield frame with the
stainless removed
Step 4: Remove the side revel molding. This piece runs along
the outside of the windwhield, along the side. This is held to
the windshield frame with two (2) phillips head screws. Once
these screws are out, gently pry the molding away from the
frame. Again, my molding had some adhesive holding it to the
frame
Step 4a: Side revel molding.
Step 4b: Side revel molding removed. Note
the large quanties of caulk on the upper
portion of the windshield frame. AYE
Caramba!!.
Step 5: Remove the side garnish molding. This molding runs
along the side of the windwhield on the inside of the car. This
piece is held to the frame by two (2) phillips head screws.
This screw is at the bottom of the molding by the dash
Step 5a: Side garnish molding top screw. This
screw is located near the upper corner of the
molding
Step 5b: Removing the side garrish molding.
This requires a little bit of fishing around to
get it to pull from the windshield frame, but
it comes out without to much trouble.
Step 6: Remove the top garrish molding. This molding runs along
the top inside of the windshield and is held to the windshield
frame with two (2) phillips head screws. One these screws are
removed, simply pull the molding from the frame
REPEAT STEPS 1 THRU 6 FOR THE OPPOSITE SIDE
Step 7: The top revel molding This molding runs along the
top outide of the windshield
Step 7a: Remove the top revel molding. This molding is held
to the windshield frame with four (4) nuts. Use a 5/16"
socket. The studs are attached to the underside of the
revel molding and pass thru the windshield frame. Access to
these nuts are underneath the frame (where the top garrish
molding was.) When removing these nuts, pull them from the
frame with a pair of needle nose pliers. Do not use your
fingers. Mine had some sealant/caulk on the backside of the
nut which did not allow them to come out of the frame with
the socket. If you drop them into the inner windshield
frame, they are a B*tch to get back out.
Step 7b: Gently begin to pry up with a
screw driver along the inner edge of the
molding. Work your way across the molding
from left to righ (or vice versa). Take your
time. My molding was held in place with
copious quanties of sealant/caulk
Step 7c: The top revel molding after
more prying. Continue to work across the
molding from side to side until the molding
pulls free from the sealant.
Step 8: Remove the rear view mirror. After removing the upper left and right
garnish moldings, the mirror is held to the windshield frame by one (1) phillips head
screw.
